MONTREAL – The Canadian men's team couldn't ask for a much better start to the latest FIFA international window.
Canada made it two shutout wins in a row over South American opposition with a 2-0 victory over Peru on Saturday at Stade Saputo courtesy of Jacob Shaffelburg's first-half brace.
Toronto FC defender Richard Chukwu, still only 18, earned his first start in his second appearance for Canada, while coach Jesse Marsch also handed national team debuts to Owen Goodman, Justin Smith and Luca Petrasso.
"These are two matches now, against Chile and against Peru, where we walk away feeling like we should score multiple goals, right? Because the identity and the clarity and the talent on the pitch is at a high level, and so we're able to control matches and make teams look bad and make them make it look like they never have a chance in the match," Marsch said.
