Toronto FC's Theo Corbeanu making up for lost time
The Canadian winger has a goal and two assists in his last six appearances after missing most of the season with a knee injury.
It’s been a difficult 2026 MLS season for Theo Corbeanu, but he’s making up for lost time with a solid run of form this summer for Toronto FC.
Corbeanu, a 24-year-old from Hamilton, Ont., didn’t play in any of TFC’s pre-season games in Spain, even though he was involved in parts of training with the club, before he ended up having knee surgery in late February just after the MLS campaign kicked off.
“It’s been a tough couple of months. Surgery is now completed. Grind mode is fully activated. Can’t wait for the return back with the lads,” Corbeanu posted on Instagram after the surgery.
It took him a while to get “back with the lads” – his return came in a 16-minute cameo off the bench in a road defeat vs. the Chicago Fire on May 23. That was Toronto’s last game before MLS went on an extended break for this summer’s FIFA World Cup, preventing Corbeanu from getting into game shape after such an extended time on the injury list.
