How Lewis Morgan's move to TFC is viewed in San Diego circles

Toronto FC pulled off an interesting trade before the MLS transfer window closed last week, acquiring Scottish forward Lewis Morgan from San Diego FC in exchange for a 2026 international roster slot.
Morgan, 29, arrived in MLS in 2020 to play for Inter Miami during its inaugural season, scoring seven goals and recording seven assists in 58 appearances in all competitions before being traded to the New York Red Bulls at the end of the 2021 campaign.
It was in New York where he made a name for himself in the league, scoring 14 goals in his debut 2022 season with the Red Bulls. A hip injury stunted his momentum and limited him to just six MLS games the following year, but he rebounded by scoring another 13 goals in 2024 and was named the league's Comeback Player of the Year. In total, he had 31 goals and 10 assists in 82 appearances for the Red Bulls.
More injuries sidelined him for most of the 2025 campaign (he only played in three MLS games for New York) before being traded to San Diego FC last December. Morgan only had two assists in 13 MLS games (six starts) this season before being traded to Toronto.
