A 2-1 loss in Miami on Saturday night dealt a crushing blow to TFC’s playoff hopes.

Toronto FC's 5-game unbeaten run snapped by Inter Miami
  • Toronto FC 1 (Insigne 28’), Inter Miami 2 (Mota 24’; Lassiter 44’)
  • TFC drops from 11th to 12th in East with 7 matches left
  • Reds have just 1 win in 13 MLS road games this season

A highlight-reel goal by one of its Italians rescued Toronto FC earlier this week, but it wasn't so lucky on Saturday night.

Even though Lorenzo Insigne found the back of the net via a sweetly struck volley with a goal-of-the-year-candidate, it wasn’t enough as TFC dropped a 2-1 decision to Inter Miami at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The loss not only dealt a big blow to the Reds' playoff hopes, it also snapped a season-high five-game unbeaten run by Toronto, whose previous setback came in a 1-0 defeat to CF Montreal on July 16. TFC only has one win in 13 road games this season. It was their first loss in six MLS matches that Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi have appeared in since making their league debuts last month.
