Toronto FC falls flat as CF Montreal wins Voyageurs Cup
  • Toronto FC 0, CF Montreal 1 (Quioto 72’)
  • Montreal beats Toronto to repeat as Canadian Championship winners.
  • TFC ends season with no playoffs or trophy for 1st time since 2014.

Leave it to CF Montreal to shovel more dirt onto Toronto FC’s grave.

TFC closed out their nightmare of a season with a completely limp performance in the latest edition of the Canadian Classique, dropping a 1-0 decision to Montreal in Sunday’s Canadian Championship final at Stade Saputo.

The loss means Toronto finished the year without a playoff appearance and a trophy for the first time in franchise history since 2014. By hoisting this year’s Voyageurs Cup, Montreal repeated as Canadian champions and qualified for the 2022 Concacaf Champions League, joining CPL side Forge FC as Canada's lone representatives.

With the victory, Montreal also claimed its fifth Canadian Championship title. Toronto has won the tournament a record seven times. The Vancouver Whitecaps (in 2015) is the only other team to be crowned Canadian champions.
