State of the union: Toronto FC face do-or-die time in August
This month's docket of four games will more than likely seal TFC's fate as a playoff contender one way or the other.
Summer has been unbelievably cruel to Toronto FC over the course of the last five playoff-less seasons and the 2026 MLS campaign is proving to be no exception.
A four-game stretch in July coming out of the World Cup break saw TFC collect just three out of a possible 12 points, keeping them rooted to 12th place in the Eastern Conference, three spots and six points below the playoff line.
A 1-1 road draw against New York City FC last week extended the club’s winless run to 12 league matches – 13 in all competitions. TFC haven’t tasted victory since earning a 3-2 home decision over the Colorado Rapids on April 4.
The good news is that slowly but surely, Toronto (3-7-8) is getting healthy again, and that could be the key to helping it get back into the playoff race after a dismal first half of the year.
