CanWNT Talk: Olympic champs have momentum, but can they keep it?

After stumbling out of the gate against Nigeria, the Canadian women's team rebounded with a gritty effort in a come-from-behind 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland at the FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.

Canada overcame a disastrous opening 45 minutes with a masterful second-half display following a game-changing triple substitution. After going down 1-0 inside the opening four minutes, the Olympic champions were given a lifeline with an own-goal in first-half injury time, before Adrian Leon scored the winner with her first career World Cup goal.

Wednesday’s result means Canada is tied with Nigeria (four points) for first place in Group B, ahead of Australia (three points), and Ireland (zero). Canada closes out Group B play vs. Australia on July 31 in Melbourne (6:00 a.m. ET/TSN) and can book its spot in the knockout round with a win or draw.
