WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oh, so close.
A third consecutive road draw appeared to be on the cards for Toronto FC before a VAR decision didn't go its way and D.C. United converted from the penalty spot in the 100th minute to seal a dramatic a 2-1 win at Audi Field on Saturday.
Without Josh Sargent in tow, the Reds overcame a poor opening 45 minutes with a much stronger second half that saw them level the score. But, ultimately, TFC (3-7-7) – who are now winless in 11 MLS matches and 12 in all competitions – couldn't see things out to the very end in the American capital.
"We created some really good attacks and some chances that we probably should have scored. So, I thought it was one of the better performances we've seen in the second half. We had really controlled, well-constructed attacks. It's disappointing that we didn't finish some of those," coach Robin Fraser said.
