Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina: What you need to know
The Canadian men's team will play its first ever World Cup match on home soil on Friday, the biggest match in the program's history.
TORONTO – This is it. The waiting is over.
The Canadian men's team will play its first ever World Cup match on home soil when it hosts Bosnia and Herzegovina in its Group B opener this week.
Make no mistake about it, this is the biggest game in the team's history, and a victory would be massive for Canada.
The top two nations from each of the 12 first-round groups advance to the knockout stage of the World Cup, as do the eight-best third teams. Four points should guarantee a spot in the round of 32 for Canada, which has lost all six of its previous matches at the World Cup (1986 and 2022). A first World Cup victory or a draw against Bosnia would put the Canadian men’s team in pole position to qualify for the knockout stage.
Here’s what you need to know about Friday's game between Canada and Bosnia at Toronto's BMO Field (3:00 p.m. ET/TSN).
