The curious case of Nelson Palacio
Toronto FC made a bold move to begin the MLS secondary transfer window in early July when it acquired Colombian midfielder Nelson Palacio in a cash-for-player trade from Real Salt Lake.
In exchange for Palacio, who will occupy a U-22 Initiative roster slot during the 2026 MLS season, Salt Lake received $1.1 million US and up to $550,000 in conditional cash if certain performance-based metrics are met. Palacio had been on loan at FC Zürich in the Swiss league since last summer.
