Alphonso Davies left off Canada’s Gold Cup roster

The Bayern Munich star and several other top European-based players have not been named to John Herdman's 23-man squad.

After having its nose bloodied in the Concacaf Nations League final, Canada will go into the upcoming Gold Cup without some of its top European-based players.

Coach John Herdman announced his 23-man roster for the Gold Cup on Monday, and not included in his squad are Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), Jonathan David (Lille), Cyle Larin (Club Brugge), Alistair Johnston (Celtic), Tajon Buchanan (Club Brugge) and Ismaël Koné (Watford).

All six players saw action for Canada in last week’s Concacaf Nations League matches, including Sunday’s 2-0 loss to the United States in the final in Las Vegas.
