Were you surprised by the news about Ira Smith?

– Lance R.

Earlier this week, TFC Republic learned that Toronto FC and its chief medical officer Dr. Ira Smith mutually agreed to part ways. Smith was the longtime team physician for TFC dating back to their early days in Major League Soccer.

The timing was interesting as it came on the heels of the club hiring Adam Brett as its director of player health and high performance earlier this summer. It also came in the aftermath of the club announcing that Nelson Palacio will be out for the rest of the season after having a thigh operation this week.
