So, without further ado...
Toronto FC's 7-game unbeaten run snapped
This time there was no magical comeback from Toronto FC. An injury-ravaged TFC saw their seven-match unbeaten streak come to an end in a tight 2-1 loss to Atlanta United on Saturday at BMO Field.
Forward Emilio Aristizábal netted his first goal for the Reds who were unbeaten in their previous 13 home matches dating back to June 25, 2025. Toronto (3-3-4) entered the weekend having rescued a point from a losing position in two consecutive matches (and four times in its last five outings), but the team’s growing list of injured players was just too much for it to overcome in this contest.
Aside from the mounting number of injuries, another major cause for concern is the number of goals Toronto is leaking. Robin Fraser’s side has conceded eight times over the last three games and has just one clean sheet through its opening 10 games of the MLS campaign.
"The last 20 minutes were good. I think prior to that, we were just a bit tentative. To be fair, Atlanta did a really good job of making it difficult to do the things that we did well and have been doing well. … But this is a game. [where] they take something away [and] you have to be able to find other ways to hurt them. And I thought we probably didn't play in behind, run in behind enough early in the game," Fraser told reporters in the post-game press conference.

Richie Laryea out for a month with thigh injury
Toronto FC’s mounting injury crisis keeps getting worse as veteran fullback Richie Laryea is expected to be out of action with a thigh injury.
Laryea played the full 90 minutes last Wednesday’s 3-3 draw vs. the Philadelphia Union but was ruled out for Saturday's game at BMO Field that saw TFC lose 2-1 to Atlanta United.
“Richie felt some discomfort after [Wednesday’s match]. We had the opportunity to kind of give him a little bit of time off and get some imaging done. And so, at the moment, he's dealing with a thigh injury that we think is probably about a month to return to play,” GM Jason Hernandez said on Saturday.
“For us, it's probably a question of is he back in the mix for us for a few games before the World Cup break. But [with] Richie, we want to be careful, and we'll be smart with him. Obviously, we know it’s an important summer.
"And we're connected with Canada Soccer in all the ways to make sure that he's up and running and feeling good. So, we're not concerned about both the World Cup at all, but maybe even having him prior to taking off."
TFC has five more games – four in MLS and one in the Canadian Championship –before MLS shuts down in late-May for an extended break due to this summer’s FIFA World Cup. Canada opens its World Cup campaign vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12 at BMO Field. If he’s healthy, Laryea is expected to be a starter for Canada at the World Cup. Toronto's first game after the World Cup break is away to CF Montreal on July 16.
The news about Laryea comes at a terrible time for Toronto who is already dealing with a series of injuries.
TFC’s injury list ahead of Saturday’s game vs. Atlanta was already exhaustive: winger Theo Corbeanu (knee); defenders Nicksoen Gomis (Achilles) and Henry Wingo (thigh); fullbacks Matheus Pereira (groin) and Richie Laryea (thigh); DP midfielder Djordje Mihailovic (pelvis); and forward Deandre Kerr (groin). On top of all of that, defender Benjamin Kuscevic and midfielder José Cifuentes had to be subbed out of the first half vs. Atlanta due to injuries.

Matheus Pereira ruled out for 10-12 weeks
Toronto FC announced last week that Matheus Pereira was scheduled to undergo surgery for a chronic groin condition. The Brazilian fullback is expected to be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks.
Pereira, 25, joined TFC in December via a transfer from Portuguese side Clube Desportivo Santa Clara, signing a deal through the 2027-28 MLS season, with a club option for 2028-29. He dealt with fitness issues throughout training camp and was sidelined for the first five games of the regular season with a groin injury.
"He's just been dealing with some groin issues for a while. We knew about the injury back in November before he came and we were told by [Santa Clara] that he was cleared, that he was back training and healthy and all of that. So, obviously, we've come to find out that the problems are a little bit more deeply rooted,” coach Robin Fraser said.
Pereira made his MLS debut when he came off the bench for the final 38 minutes of TFC's 3-2 home win over the Colorado Rapids on April 4. A week later in a 1-1 draw against FC Cincinnati, he earned his first start and gave a decent account of himself with one shot, two key passes, an interception and one defensive clearance, while completing 90.9 per cent of his passes.

TFC vs. San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday
Toronto FC plays the eighth match of its nine-game homestand when it hosts the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday (1:00 p.m. ET/TSN & Apple TV).
San Jose (9-1-0) sits atop the MLS Supporters' Shield standings and has won six games in a row, including a 3-2 decision away to St. Louis City SC this past weekend. Bruce Arena won his 282nd regular-season game, a record among MLS head coaches. The late Sigi Schmid is second with 240.
The Earthquakes boast the league's best attack with 25 goals, led by Preston Judd's team-high six goals. Ousseni Bouda has five while new German DP Timo Werner has four. Niko Tsakiris is the club's top playmaker with six assists.
San Jose also has the third-best defence in MLS with just six goals against. Brazilian goalkeeper Daniel de Sousa Britto has five clean sheets
The Earthquakes’ 9-1-0 start to 2026 eclipses their previous best beginning to a season in club history after 10 games in 2012 (7-1-2), which ended in them winning the Supporters’ Shield.
