The working dynamic between TFC's Robin Fraser and Jason Hernandez
Fraser talks to TFC Republic about his relationship with the GM and how they have worked together to build the Reds' roster.
Although not hectic as busy as last summer, the MLS secondary window that closed earlier this month was still fairly busy for Toronto FC.
GM Jason Hernandez made one headline grabbing roster move with the acquisition of midfielder Niklas Dorsch via transfer from Heidenheim 1846 of Germany's second division in late July. Other newcomers included Scottish attacker Lewis Morgan, veteran midfielder Nelson Palacios and on-loan winger Alejandro Piedrahita, while TFC 2 defender Richard Chukwu (considered one of the organization’s top prospects) graduated to the senior team.
At the same time, forward Deandre Kerr was sold off to AVS Futebol SAD in Portugal’s second division. Cassius Mailula and Henry Wingo were bought out of their contracts. José Cifuentes returned to parent club Rangers in Scotland after the conclusion of his loan deal, as the Reds opted not to exercise their purchase option.
In most cases, Hernandez consults coach Robin Fraser to get his opinion long before any transfer signings or trades are concluded. Sometimes deals come together at the last minute that the club has to act quickly on the opportunity, and so Fraser has less of a say in things.
